Phoenix, Arizona Facility

Since the late 1960s, Aircraft Interior Products Propulsion Systems has developed and manufactured rocket catapults, rocket motors, and gas generators ranging in size from less than one pound to well over 100 pounds. Propulsion Systems operates complete facilities for the on-site development, manufacture, and test of solid propellants and solid propellant operated devices. The propellants and propellant operated devices manufactured by Propulsion Systems are on virtually all U.S. military aircraft in service today.

Aircraft Interior Products Propulsion Systems’ Phoenix facility is our center of excellence for Cartridge Actuated Devices and Propellant Actuated Devices (CAD/PAD) and includes 54 buildings with floor space of approximately 141,000 square feet. The facility was designed specifically to accommodate the development and manufacture of solid propellants, related devices, and escape systems. The facility includes separate areas for formulating, testing, and storing energetic materials. Safety, quality, and environmental practices comply with all applicable government standards.

Propulsion Systems is qualified to ANSI/ASQC, ISO 9001:-2000 with AS9100A

Propulsion Systems operates one of the most technologically advanced and versatile propellant facilities of its size. It produces both large and small batches of propellants and other energetic materials formulated to meet highly specialized and exacting requirements. Several developed high density and standard density composite propellants are now covered by government specification.

Manufacturing facilities cover nearly 47,500 square feet and include assembly areas for rocket motors and gas generators, plus three separate propellant processing areas. Two of these areas use batch-processing techniques and are capable of producing 3,500 pounds of propellant per day on a single shift basis. The third facility is based on a proprietary continuous mixing and extruding process with a nominal output of 750 pounds per day.
